Drunk Driving Claims The Life of a Motorist

June 9, 2011

Graduation day is a special rite of passage that many teenagers have the honor of experiencing. For many, it is a family affair that ends with a celebration. One family in Gerard, Pennsylvania, did not get to have that celebration on Tuesday. Their graduate was killed by a drunk driver just hours after the ceremony.

The Erie Times-News reports that the 18-year–old died after the car he was riding in ran off of the road and rolled over. The teen was ejected from the vehicle and ended up trapped beneath the wreckage.

Officials say that the 21-year-old driver has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and driving without a license.

Mothers Against Drunk Drivng (MADD) did a study that one person will die as a result of drunk driving every fifty minutes this year. They also found that drunk driving costs each innocent taxpayer $500 a year. Unfortunately, many people pay with their lives instead.
