Walt Whitman Bridge Bus Crash Ends in Shooting

July 22, 2019 – West Deptford, NJ

A 17-year old boy from West Deptford, New Jersey was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for injuries sustained in a shooting on the Walt Whitman bridge early Monday, July 22nd.

The boy allegedly stole a bus from a lot on July 21st and was driving at dangerous speeds towards I-295. After a high speed police chase involving Gloucester County Police, the boy crashed the bus into the guardrail on the Walt Whitman Bridge. It’s unclear what occurred but the boy sustained gun wounds from a police officer standoff.

The bridge remained closed for several hours giving Monday morning drivers a difficult commute to work.

The boy is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
