Settlement Reached in Pennsylvania Nursing Home Abuse Case

Care providers at nursing homes and long-term care facilities have a legal and ethical responsibility to protect the health and safety of their patients. Yet statistics show that as many as 1 in 3 elderly individuals will become victims of abuse or neglect this year.

In our state, victims of such careless treatment often seek compensation for damages they’ve suffered through a Pennsylvania nursing home abuse claim. In fact, a settlement was recently reached in one such case.

According to an article from The Telegraph, one of the largest nursing home chains in the United States has agreed to pay $38 million to lay to rest claims that they provided inadequate care for patients among other violations. Reports indicate just a few examples of the mistakes and accidents that were documented included:

  • Fractures
  • Head injuries
  • Falls
  • Bedsores
  • Infection
  • Malnutrition

The settlement includes facilities in eight states, including 20 facilities that are located in Pennsylvania. The state’s Medicaid program will receive $2.2 million from the settlement, while Pennsylvania will hold on to another $1 million from the settlement.
