Estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggest that helmets saved the lives of more than 1,700 motorcyclists and that 800 more lives could have been saved if drivers wore them at all times.

Besides wearing a helmet when riding, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation suggests motorcyclists should:

  • Remain visible to other vehicles on the road.
  • Wear eye protection and thick, protective clothing.
  • Be aware of road conditions and changing weather.
  • Know how to properly operate their motorcycle.
