Wrongful Death Claim Made Against Pennsylvania VA Hospital

When a person is killed as the result of another individual’s negligence, the family of the victim may have a right to seek compensation for their loss through civil litigation. Such a Pennsylvania wrongful death lawsuit was filed recently against the Department of Veterans Affairs health system after their staff allegedly failed to properly care for a patient.

An article from Stars and Stripes states a U.S. Marine Corps veteran was being treated at a VA facility for small cell lung cancer. During his time at the hospital though, he was exposed to Legionnaire’s disease and became infected.

The hospital and their staff delayed testing of the patient after the exposure despite having information that an outbreak of the disease was presently occurring at the hospital. The patient died several days after being transferred to another wing of the hospital.

The family of the man filed suit, claiming the hospital and its staff did not do enough to properly diagnose and treat their loved one’s condition. They are seeking compensation for funeral expenses, medical bills, and other losses.

The Philadelphia personal injury lawyers with Lundy Law know how difficult it can be to lose a loved one to another person’s negligence or mistake. That’s why the firm is hopeful a decision in the case will bring a sense of closure to the family of the victim.
