Playground Safety
June 19, 2009
Each year in the United States, more than 200,000 children visit the emergency room for playground-related injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This summer when your children are outside playing, there are several steps you can take to ensure their safety, such as:
Check all playground equipment. Make sure the equipment is properly designed, has a soft landing surface, and isn’t too hot for playing. Also, be sure to check that there are no loose bolts or protruding objects that can cause harm.
Allow children to only play on age-appropriate equipment. Some playground equipment is not made for children of all ages.
Require adult supervision at all times when children are playing at the playground.
