NEC Baby Formula Lawsuit

Do I Qualify For an NEC Baby Formula Lawsuit?

Those more susceptible to developing necrotizing enterocolitis after being fed Similac, Enfamil or another cow’s milk-based baby formula include:

  • Premature babies born before the 37th week of pregnancy
  • Infants receiving enteral nutrition via a feeding tube
  • Infants weighing under 5.5 pounds at birth
  • Children born at hospitals with limited access to breast milk or fortified plant-based formulas
  • Children born within the past 20 years, during which research established a link between NEC and cow’s milk formula given to premature babies

If your child was born premature, fed a cow’s milk-based formula and developed necrotizing enterocolitis, you may be eligible to participate in the NEC baby formula lawsuit.

WHAT IS NECROTIZING ENTEROCOLITIS (NEC)?

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious condition that can occur in newborn babies. It is a type of inflammation of the intestine that can lead to the death of tissue. NEC can be very dangerous and even life-threatening.

The exact cause of NEC is not known, but it is thought to be related to a combination of factors, including immature intestines, infection, and formula feeding. NEC is more common in premature babies, but it can also occur in full-term infants.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AN INFANT MAY HAVE NEC?

NEC, or Necrotizing Enterocolitis, is a serious gastrointestinal disorder that primarily affects infants. This condition is characterized by the death of intestinal tissue, which can lead to a number of serious complications.

The most common symptom of NEC is:

  • bloody stools
  • abdominal pain
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • fever
  • feeding difficulties.

NEC can quickly progress to sepsis, or blood poisoning, and can be fatal if not treated immediately.

If you suspect your child may have NEC, it is important to seek medical attention right away. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential for the best possible outcome.

WHAT BABY FORMULAS USE COW BASED MILKS?

Enfamil and Similac have no warnings about NEC as a side effect of their cow’s milk-based formulas, which include:

  • Similac Special Care
  • Similac Human Milk Fortifier
  • Similac NeoSure
  • Similac Alimentum
  • Similac Special Care
  • Enfamil Human Milk Fortifier Acidified Liquid
  • Enfamil Powder
  • Similac Special Care 30
  • Enfamil NeuroPro Enfacare
  • Enfamil Premature 20 Cal
  • Enfamil Premature 24 Cal
  • Enfamil Premature 30 Cal
  • Enfamil 24 and DHA & ARA Supplement

Some premature infants are fed formula as their main source of nutrition, and some are fed their mother’s breast milk, or donor milk, and use formula as a fortifier.
