Toyota Recall Continues

The Toyota recall is moving ahead rapidly…read below.

The Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reports that While Toyota has been accused of being extremely slow to respond in issuing a recall for its floor-mat-related, unintended-acceleration issue, the automaker has responded remarkably quickly with a solution to its other, unrelated recall—regarding sticking accelerator mechanisms.

Beginning this weekend, dealerships will begin retrofitting vehicles with a solution that involves putting a steel reinforcement bar under the pedal that will alleviate the potential surface-tension issue in the current design that causes the pedal to stick or be slow to return.

Disney toys recalled over cadmium concerns.

Here is a timely update on the Toxic Toys story. If your child has one of the Toys from “The Princess and the Frog”, you will definitely want to read this story.

The AP (1/30) reports the Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of tie-in toys from “The Princess and The Frog.” A series of pendants sold at Walmart have been determined to contain “high levels of the toxic metal cadmium,” which prompted Rhode Island-based jewelry company FAF Inc. to conduct a voluntary recall of 55,000 toys. According to the AP, “the Walt Disney Co. released a letter yesterday it sent its vendors and licensees that sets a zero-tolerance policy for cadmium in any children’s jewelry bearing its brand.”

The Chicago Tribune (1/29) editorialized, “It will take some time to stop China-made, cadmium-laced jewelry from winding up on U.S. store shelves. So parents, the safest course for now is to put the jewelry away.”
